Daggerheart is a heroic fantasy pen-and-paper role-playing game with a special focus on narrative gameplay. The system encourages everyone at the gaming table to create stories together—through cooperative mechanics interspersed with dynamic moments of action. The system offers a wide range of options for character creation and development, based on an atmospheric, card-based game design featuring hundreds of evocative illustrations. Different backgrounds, communities, and classes can be combined to create vivid characters and develop their abilities with 189 unique special abilities and spells from 9 domains. Additionally, Daggerheart introduces its own dice system, in which hope and fear play a major role both mechanically and narratively.
Instead of a finite game world, Daggerheart offers so-called campaign frames, each of which depicts its own world—or part of a world—and is suitable for both short adventures and long-term campaigns. The individual stories and simple game mechanics make it easy for even role-playing newcomers to get started. Daggerheart was developed by the media group Critical Role and its publishing imprint, Darrington Press.
The Daggerheart Base Set includes the core rulebook with six different campaign frames set in various game worlds and genres, as well as 270 unique playing cards. Additional dice (D4, D6, D8, D10, D10 decimal, 2 different D12s, D20) are required to play.
