Crime never sleeps and neither does competition

Pegasus Spiele releases Witness and Intarsia by Deep Print Games

Friedberg, July 9, 2024: Two new family titles from Deep Print Games, Witness and Intarsia, will be available in small advance quantities at the Berlin Brettspiel Con. In the cooperative crime fighting game series Witness, players must accumulate and memorize crucial case evidence to prove their collective deduction skills across three separate campaign boxes, while in the tile placement game Intarsia they will craft stylish parquet ornaments for the Café de Paris. All four new products can be reserved via a pre-order campaign, then collected in person at the Berlin Brettspiel Con. The titles, which are distributed exclusively by Pegasus Spiele, are expected to be available in stores this October.

In the newest edition of Witness, exactly four players ages ten and up will join together as members of the secret „Witness Agency“ to cooperatively solve cases by sharing personal clues, through whispering, and cleverly combining them with new evidence learned each round. Each Witness instalment by Dominique Bodin contains eight separate cases of varying difficulty that weave together into one continuous story. In Witness – On the Trail of the Chameleon, players try to prevent the theft of secret plans for a revolutionary invention in the fight against climate change; in Witness - The Treasure of Othesis, clues from a deceased archaeologist lead players to Egyptian temples; and in Witness - The Sigma Club, the mafia appears to be involved in the murder of a student.

The game principle is simple: first, a prologue is read to all that introduces the plot. Next, each player takes on the role of one of the Agency team and receives a secret clue card specific to that character. Over four consecutive whisper rounds, information will be passed from one person to another. Only clues may be shared—neither questions nor note taking is allowed! After the final whisper round, the players have an opportunity to write down whatever facts they want to remember. Finally, the case’s three questions are revealed and everyone will secretly write down their answers. The team is awarded one point for each correct match, up to a maximum score of 12. Each of the eight cases per case box is played quickly in 10 to 25 minutes. Each box will be available at an RRP of €14.99.

The second family game, Intarsia by Michael Kiesling, transports two to four players ages ten and up to France. The Café de Paris is to be renovated and the players want to present their most beautiful concepts for the new parquet floor with stylish intarsias, to secure the contract. An ornament consists of one to four filigree and high-quality wood elements: The basis is a frame, into which a midsection, core piece and table can also be inserted. The smaller elements can be puzzled together in exactly this order, i.e. from the outside inwards.

First, the players receive material cards, each of which shows one of the four colours in the game. During the building phase, these cards can be used to pay for and build a wood element. Whoever fulfils the requirement of a tool tile receives it and scores victory points for the tile itself as well as for their own previous tool tiles of the same tool type. Depending on what has been built, the player may now draw new material cards. After everyone has passed, the round ends and players receive points for specific board elements before starting the next round. After three rounds, a final scoring phase takes place where the more pieces an ornament consists of, the more points it scores. The B-side of the floor board offers variation for this clever and high-quality placement game, including green plants that need to be enclosed. Intarsia plays in 45 to 60 minutes and will be available at an RRP of €39.99.

All four games, as well as the Pegasus Spiele Berlin Brettspiel Con titles Pixies and Look at the Stars, can be reserved via a pre-order campaign and picked up at the Pegasus Spiele stand (Hall 2, Stand 4-01 and 4-02). Visit the pre-order campaign page for more information.
