Pegasus Spiele releases Port Royal – The Dice Game

Friedberg, June 7, 2024: Pegasus Spiele adds a new standalone title to the world of Alexander Pfister’s Port Royal, a timeless classic which has been translated into 30 languages over its lifetime. In the family game Port Royal – The Dice Game, players will push their luck using dice instead of cards, as they sail the nautical landscape to recruit expert crew members and loot bountiful treasure.

Port Royal - The Dice Game is the latest installment in the popular Port Royal series, after the great success of the original card game and the all-in-one Big Box edition. However, the harbor of Port Royal is as lively as ever in this high-risk game with pirate flair. In Port Royal – The Dice Game, two to five sailors ages ten and up exchange their cards for dice and pencils, but the goal remains the same: hire the most capable crew and seek your fortunes across the open sea.

Each round in Port Royal – The Dice Game has two phases: first, the active player rolls dice and the game board fills with different colored ship and ship wheel tokens. Second, they can exchange the tokens for actions on their own game board, gaining a bonus either to reach new islands or to gain first access to new effects. The more tokens one can place, the better, and there is no limit to the number of times the dice are rolled. However, if the same colored ship appears twice and cannot be fought off by saber-rattling crew, the player will end their turn empty-handed while the others at the table can fill their pockets. Will the active player stop rolling in time to take advantage of all their bounty? The first player to reach 20 points will be the winner.

Port Royal – The Dice Game is designed with four independent chapters that gradually introduce new elements into the game and thus provide increasing variety. Each chapter can be played many times with 100 game maps for each, and a single play takes between 20 to 50 minutes. Port Royal – The Dice Game is family friendly at the start, then adds challenges across its four chapters, which makes it a great gateway to more complex Roll & Write games.
