Prehistoric parenting and refrigerator raids

Two new children's games join the Pegasus Spiele portfolio

Friedberg, September 26: Shortly before SPIEL in Essen, Pegasus Spiele has released two new children’s games for two to four players ages five and up. Dori Dino, the latest release in the Kids Fun line, is a frenzied and colorful race to either get organized or create chaos, while Snack Happens requires both good luck and great choices in order to build the most glorious stash of snacks and win.

Since Pegasus Spiele first launched the Kids Fun series with Honey (Kinderspiel des Jahres Recommended 2022), the line has continued to expand with titles that combine lighthearted themes and clever, colorful components—Happy Hopping, Bubble Trouble, and Turtle Mania. The fifth game in the series is Dori Dino. Designed by Kirsten Hiese, this fast-paced, real-time game about dinosaurs being responsible (or terribly irresponsible) uses the box as its playing surface. In each round, all but one player work together as Dino Parents who dutifully guide 24 glittering eggs into matching nests. However, someone plays each round as young Dori: the chaotic mischief-maker who makes a mess by rolling eggs to all the wrong places. At the end of each round, the eggs hatch and points are scored. After everyone has a chance to play as Dori, whoever has hatched the most dino eggs is the winner.

The second new children’s game is Snack Happens by Michael Kallauch, where players are hungry pets who raid the refrigerator the moment their humans leave the house. The first player to fill their snack stash with tasty treats will win. This game is also played using the box, and in each round one player will start the raid by dropping a handful of tokens into it to discover what they find in the fridge. Each token represents one of whatever image it is touching, such as a wedge of watermelon, slice of cake, or a milkshake. In turn, each player will choose one token and claim their prize, as long as there remains a matching open space in their personal puzzle board. Blend any three items to transform them into a single snack of your choice, or be adventurous and choose the Snack Box to score something at random. Snack Happens is a charming game that combines luck and skill with a child-friendly theme and delightful illustrations.
