Season’s Greetings!

Friedberg, 21.12.2022: Only a few more days until it is Christmas once again! With the year coming to an end, Pegasus Spiele looks back on a few of 2022’s gaming highlights like Spaceship Unity and Skymines, prepares for exciting new releases already on their way for 2023.

All in all, 2022 was not an easy year. The war in Ukraine affected Europe and the international community in countless ways, and the Corona pandemic continues to influence our daily lives. But thankfully there were also good times: Board game conventions truly made their comeback in 2022 as fans around the world once again gathered to enjoy board games and each other’s company. Pegasus Spiele chose to use the opportunity to do some good, hosting a #StandForUkraine charity event in May at the headquarters. All proceeds raised were donated to a disaster relief organization to help the people of Ukraine.

Of course, some wonderful new games saw the light of day for the first time in 2022! In March, First Rat was released – a game about rats racing around a junkyard collecting scrap in order to build a rocket and be the first to fly to the moon. While it looks very cute at first glance there’s a lot of strategy and variety to enjoy. This surprised many, including Tom Vasel of The Dice Tower, where the game appeared twice on their “Winter Spectacular - Top Ten Surprises of 2022” lists.

In the second half of 2022, the cooperative action-adventure Spaceship Unity: Season 1.1 immersed players in a quest for galactic peace by transforming their home into a spaceship, using everyday objects like cutlery, shutters, and vacuum cleaners as the ship’s systems.

Skymines by Pegasus Spiele partner Deep Print Games offered an engrossing Euro experience for expert gamers, where players invest resources across four mining corporations, then increase the value of their holdings by building distant outposts. A double-sided board sets the game either on the moon or an asteroid belt, each demanding different strategies in order to become the wealthiest investor of all.

2022 also introduced the Deadly Dinner series, a new line of classic murder mystery games, each release offering a unique setting, story, and large player count. But one thing is always the same: a murder has occurred and one of the players is the culprit! By discussing the events of the day leading up to the crime, can the group determine who has done the devious deed? A map of the location, character standees, and an assortment of incriminating items help them solve each case over the course of three to four hours.

And speaking of solving cases: 2022 saw the release of the third installment in the MicroMacro series by Edition Spielwiese, titled MicroMacro: Crime City – All In. This standalone sequel contains the map to a new city district of the black and white city from 2021’s Spiel des Jahres (Game of the Year) winner, plus 16 new cases. But the mysteries in Crime City are far from over! Fans of this hidden object family game may rest assured that a fourth district will be revealed in 2023.

Of course, MicroMacrois not the only game that will have a follow-up next year, because where there is a Season 1.1, of course a Season 1.2 must follow: Spaceship Unity will return with new wacky space adventures for the whole family! Last but not least, Pegasus Spiele released the German board game implementation of beloved indie video game Dorfromantik at SPIEL’22, and the company is happy to announce the release of an English edition early next year.

Until then, Pegasus Spiele wishes everyone happy holidays with many fun hours of gaming, and all the best for 2023!
