The duel of the landscapers

Friedberg, February 27, 2024: In July of 2023, Dorfromantik – The Board Game was honoured with the most coveted game award in the world, the Spiel des Jahres. Soon, players can return to the world of Dorfromantik for a new competitive experience with Dorfromantik – The Duel, scheduled for release by Pegasus Spiele in March 2024.

The video game community first learned of Dorfromantik when the digital game appeared on Steam three years ago in March 2021, developed by the independent Berlin-based studio Toukana Interactive. Dorfromantik's triumphant advance has continued since that day, winning awards and capturing the attention of thousands of video game players who fell in love with the peaceful building strategy and puzzle game.

Two experienced board game designers, Michael Palm and Lukas Zach, learned of the idyllic digital game and recognized its potential. They designed the board game adaptation in collaboration with the team at Toukana Interactive, and once completed Dorfromantik – The Board Game was published by Pegasus Spiele to great acclaim. By the time the year ended, this cooperative family board game for one to six players had won the coveted Spiel des Jahres award for 2023 and the hearts of gamers around the world.

After the great success of Dorfromantik – The Board Game, many wondered what would come next. This time, the experiences in the world of Dorfromantik are no longer about working together, but rather about friendly competition. Dorfromantik – The Duel, again designed by Lukas Zach and Michael Palm, plays in 30-45 minutes and retains the basic principles of tile-laying and completing tasks. Two players aged ten and up (or two teams) will each create their own beautiful landscape of forests, villages, fields, rivers, and railroad tracks. The challenge in Dorfromantik – The Duel is that both players will expand their own landscape using two identical tiles. In each round, when a new tile is revealed by the first player, the second player will locate a matching tile. They will each separately decide where to place it in their own landscapes as they try to best fulfil tasks requested by the townspeople and score as many points as possible.

Dorfromantik – The Duel also introduces two new Task types, Double Tasks and Wraparound Tasks, in addition to two new optional modules that provide even more challenges, variety, and player interaction. Players of Dorfromantik – The Board Game will find new components to add to the original cooperative game, including seven Task tiles with Double and Wraparound Tasks, four Achievement cards and their special tiles, plus a Photographer with camera markers. Finally, with two copies of Dorfromantik – The Duel it is possible for four players or teams to peacefully compete against each other in the challenge to create the most beautiful landscape.
