Undead everywhere

Pegasus Spiele portfolio extended by the children's game Zilence

Friedberg, March 25, 2024: In February, the zombie children's game Zilence was published by Pegasus Spiele. In this game of quiet frenzy, players are desperate to find the best way through the labyrinthine streets in limited time to collect vital items.

In the children's game Zilence by Sophia Wagner, two to four brave players ages six and up set off in the middle of a zombie apocalypse to collect items that are essential for survival, such as board games, a medipack, or a walkman. They start their flight from the roof of a tower block in the centre of the city.  Before each round starts, players draw cards to determine what items they are looking for. Next, three of the twelve potential flight paths out of the city are activated and players have 20 seconds to trace each route using only their eyes. The goal: commit to a single flight path where they believe they can collect as many of the items they seek this turn.

Once the timer ends the round and all players reveal their choice, each flight path is checked using an included flight pointer to see what items have been collected. Whoever has chosen the respective path may now discard any cards for matching items. New cards are drawn before the next round begins, and the game continues this way until one player has found all twelve of their items.

The special challenge of Zilence lies in the chaotic city map, which changes every round thanks to six double-sided map board sections. There are always new possible flight paths of different lengths that weave in confusing directions around the city, and some even lead to a dead end. It is often not possible to scan all three routes in the short time available, so players must decide whether to play it safe and choose a scouted flight path or take a risk and commit to an unfamiliar route out of the city.
